Claymore Renewal Project

The Concept Plan for the Claymore Renewal Project provides the framework for the creation of an integrated, mixed community of private and social housing close to transport, services, shops, community facilities, parks and open spaces.

Following the NSW Government’s approval of the Claymore Concept Plan in 2013, the project will transform 1,100 former social housing dwellings into a mixed tenure community comprising 1,010 new private homes and around 450 new and retained social homes.

$150 million to fast-track renewal projects

The NSW Government recently announced $150 million committed from its Fast-Track Housing Construction Package over the next three years for Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) to accelerate the renewal projects at the Claymore and Airds Bradbury housing estates, delivering more than 500 new social homes and 1,000 new land lots for sale to build new private homes.

Half of this money (i.e. $75 million) will be allocated to the Claymore project, to allow LAHC to expand the renewal program by opening up a ‘second development front’ in parallel with the stages currently under redevelopment.

Claymore masterplan

Fast-tracking the development at Claymore will see the project completed in around 6-7 years’ time, or around five years earlier originally planned.  This means that relocation timeframes will need to change for some social housing tenants. A letter setting out details of the new program was letterboxed to all households on 18 November 2020.

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) continues to provide assistance to social housing residents who are required to relocate.  A specialist team is available to assist tenants who are moving as a result of the fast-tracked program.

$21 million in community facilities and infrastructure

New community facilities, upgraded open space areas and major infrastructure worth around $21 million will be delivered for Campbelltown City Council as part of the wider Claymore Renewal Concept Plan.

The open space areas include the completed Badgally Reserve as well as the future upgrading of Dimeny Park, Davis Park and Fullwood Reserve. New local roads, pedestrian and cycle paths will also be built.

Modern and adaptable housing for seniors is a priority with around 150 units to be built close to future community facilities, parks and public transport.  The first two new seniors living buildings with a total of 55 units were completed by LAHC in 2020.

The remaining new social homes will generally be detached homes to help meet the demand for contemporary housing in the Campbelltown region.

Support for residents

LAHC has been supporting residents with a wide range of programs and community initiatives available through the Claymore Opportunity Hub.

Following restrictions brought about by COVID-19, the Hub has recently reopened for approved user groups and service providers in line with health and safety requirements .  Residents can make contact with the Renewal Team by emailing: [email protected]
