Land and Housing Corporation’s (LAHC) vision is to create a vibrant neighbourhood that appeals to a diverse residential population with social and private housing seamlessly integrated into the broader Corrimal community (read media release).

The site is currently vacant and is located in an area with a high demand for additional social housing. It is surrounded by older detached residential dwellings as well as more contemporary townhouses and an adjacent residential apartment block.

Traders in Purple was appointed by LAHC in June 2018 to redevelop the site, following a competitive tender process. The social housing units will be managed by Housing Trust and will blend in with the private and affordable rental housing.

The development application from Traders in Purple was lodged with Wollongong City Council at the end of 2018 and was approved on 9 December 2019.

The project will comprise of 13  two – storey townhouses that each have individual frontage on to a new internal access, while a separate three – storey mixed tenure residential flat building containing 21 apartments over a single level basement car park will also be delivered. Within the 21 apartments, LAHC will receive seven units for social housing purposes with a further three units designated as affordable.

Construction works are on track to commence on the site by mid-2020 and be completed by the end of 2021.
