Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open to deliver around 60 new affordable, social and private housing dwellings on Crown Street in the heart of Wollongong, Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward and Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward announced today.
The site is part of the NSW Government’s Communities Plus program that utilises social housing sites for redevelopment to deliver more social housing mixed with private and affordable housing.
Mr Ward said he anticipated strong interest from community housing providers and members of the private and not-for-profit sectors.
“We are looking for innovative proposals that emphasise great design to deliver Wollongong’s first mixed community of social, affordable and private housing,” Mr Ward said.
“The site is in prime location close to the CBD and Wollongong City Beach, something we know will be appealing to future tenants.”
Ms Goward said the NSW Government is currently undertaking the biggest social housing building program in the country, delivering more and better housing for tenants and NSW families on the waiting list.
“Communities Plus will deliver up to 23,500 new and replacement social and affordable housing dwellings and up to 40,000 private homes over 10 years across NSW,” Ms Goward said.
EOI applicants are required to demonstrate their financial capacity, experience and capability to deliver the project. Shortlisted respondents will be invited to participate in the Request for Proposal in 2019. The Crown Street Wollongong EOI closes on Wednesday 31 October 2018.
